Mostar, with its storied stones and echoing history, welcomes travelers into the embrace of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s diverse past. The iconic Stari Most, or Old Bridge, stands as a testament to both the city’s architectural prowess and its tumultuous history. Constructed in the 16th century, this Ottoman-era masterpiece once tragically fell during the wars of the ’90s but has since been meticulously rebuilt, symbolizing the spirit of regeneration and unity of the people of Mostar.
Walking along the cobbled streets, I was entranced by the mix of medieval architecture and the signs of modern life. The melodic calls from the minarets beautifully complemented the gentle hum of conversations from bustling cafes. The reflection of the stone buildings in the serene waters of the Neretva River created picturesque views at every turn. In Mostar, history isn’t just a subject of the past; it’s a living entity, palpable in every corner, reminding visitors of the resilience and enduring spirit of this enchanting city.
